EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso police have charged a Northeast man with aggravated assault against a public servant.

According to police, officers were called about a fight call Sunday around 9:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Hayes. Police said Juan Portillo was coming from the area where the fight was reported to be located.

Officers reported that they repeatedly told Portillo to stop and that he eventually turned towards them and stated that he "hated cops" and then said "I got something for ya" as he reached into his back pocket.

Officers were able to secure Portillo and remove a knife that was in his back pocket, according to police.

Portillo was booked into the El Paso County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant. His bonds were set at $50,000.
