El Paso man arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession in traffic stop

EL PASO, Texas —

A wrong turn for a driver in east El Paso ends in a cocaine seizure and an arrest of a 18-year-old man. 

Ricardo Gomez was driving a 1993 Cadillac DeVille on the 500 block of Lomaland when police officers said they noticed Gomez make an illegal right turn.

Gomez was pulled over. When police officers got closer to the  vehicle, they said they smelled marijuana inside.

The police officers requested a K-9 unit to the scene to search for drugs.

The dog alerted them to 8 grams of cocaine underneath the driver's seat, said police 

Gomez was placed under arrest on suspicion of possession of cocaine as well as 10 outstanding traffic/municipal warrants.

He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on $22,255 bail.
