EL PASO, Texas —

Lt. j.g. William Brown McIlvaine III, a naval flight officer from El Paso, was one of three Navy personnel that died when a U.S. Navy aircraft crashed in Washington state Monday, officials said.

U.S. Navy officials said Mcllvaine, 24, died along with Lt. j.g. Valerie Cappelaere Delaney, naval aviator, 26, from Ellicott City, Md. and Lt. Cmdr. Alan A. Patterson, naval flight officer, 34, from Tullahoma, Tenn.

The Associated Press reported that the aircraft from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island crashed at around 8:45 a.m. local time about 50 miles west of Spokane, Wash. The Navy told Congress that no parachutes were deployed.

The Prowler was "engaged in a low-level navigation training mission," the Navy told Congress. Whidbey Island officials said the cause of the accident was under investigation, according to The Associated Press.

Navy officials said the aircraft was conducting a routine training flight prior to the crash.
