EL PASO, Texas —

Twenty-nine bands, local food vendors and more will fill several blocks in downtown El Paso from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

Neon Desert is the first event of its kind in the Borderland. Three El Paso natives organized the event, which they started doing back in 2009.

"We've got groups coming in from England, Canada, Brazil, Venezuela, from Mexico, of course," one of the organizers, Zach Paul said.

"We've tried to do something [like this] with the city for 15 years, and the city's never really responded," local club owner Alfrank Catucci told KFOX-14.

He said he hopes Neon Desert does well. Paul does, too.

"This is something we want to do every year," Paul said.

Paul said he hopes the event not only gives El Pasoans a big event to look forward to every year, but that such an event has a positive economic effect on El Paso.

"We want people to eat in the restaurants, drink in the bars, sleep in the hotels," Paul said.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for Fort Bliss soldiers and their families, cash only. Price includes food and all entertainment.
