EL PASO, Texas —
A Chicago-based company is the target of allegations that they scammed several local El Paso families out of thousands of dollars.
The company, Casting Hub, came to the El Paso Convention Center in December, and returned earlier this month with promises of fame and fortune.
Those who attended the casting call were under the impression that they were auditioning their children for a part in an upcoming show or movie.
For those who received callbacks, they were told that they had to pay a fee ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 if they wanted their child to be seriously considered.
After payment was made, parents said that Casting Hub disappeared, taking the money with them. When they called to ask for their money back, they were ignored.
KFOX14 attempted to contact Casting Hub to ask them about the allegations. After being transferred from line to line, they hung. After a call back, they said "They are not at liberty to answer any of our questions."
The Better Business Bureau in El Paso said that Casting Hub is accredited in Chicago, but that there is not much information available on their review.
"Modeling talent agencies and casting companies guarantee almost overnight success, and these professions are very hard to get into, so if anything is guaranteed, that's kind of a red flag," Margo Monreal said.
Monreal works at the BBB, and added that she reached out to the Attorney General's office regarding Casting Hub, to see if they are going to launch an investigation.
The parents who reported this to KFOX14 currently do not want to do an on-camera interview with us. Several have expressed fear that lawyers from Casting Hub will threaten them with a lawsuit.
Some have documents that they say will prove that Casting Hub lied and broke their end of what was written in the contract. We will work on getting those documents and will continue to follow this developing story.
