El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy Injured In Crash

EL PASO, Texas —

An El Paso County sheriff's deputy was taken to the hospital after being involved in an accident in far east El Paso.

According to investigators, the deputy was riding his department motorcycle and attempted to turn onto Montana Avenue from Joe Battle Boulevard. However, a white Honda accord was stalled on the shoulder in front of him.

"So the deputy conducted a brake escape maneuver that they teach during traffic investigation school. And he was able to maneuver the vehicle away from plowing into the back end of the Honda. However, it did clip the left side of the Honda, and the deputy then went airborne and he landed in the pavement," said El Paso County sheriff's spokesman Jesse Tovar.

Authorities said the deputy was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff's did not issue any citations.
