EL PASO, Texas —
"In this incident the teacher made students, we are told, to clean the bathroom," said El Paso Independent School District spokeswoman Berenice Zubia.
Zubia said it happened on May 20 and the students were third-graders at Kohlberg. She said EPISD received complaints from students and parents about the alleged incident. According to the investigation, the students made a mess and Sullivan wanted them to clean it up.
Some parents said the coach did the right thing.
"I think if they had paper and stuff in there and that's what I understand it was, I don't see anything different about that than picking up paper around the school, and he does that, I've seen him do that," said Casey McCuan, a parent of a student at Kohlberg.
EPISD officials did not say if the students were wearing gloves when the alleged incident took place, but the district has taken some action.
"He was removed from the classroom setting immediately, and he has been assigned to another area," said Zubia.
Zubia said the investigation is still going on and some parents defend him.
"I think in terms of character, he's a really top notch guy," said McCuan.
