UPDATE: El Paso area road closures due to snowstorm

Update 1:45 p.m.

El Paso

Closed:  Scenic Road, Transmountain Road,  Mckelligon Canyon

Trouble spots earlier were Mesa from Sunland- Executive, Shadow Mountain, I10 btwn Sunland and Executive had to be shut down but is now open!

Also US54 and SPUR601 were bad & looking at them now, still bad.

East El Paso just got hit but  nothing major so far.

All EPDOT crews are on duty now treating dangerous roads with salt & sand

New Mexico:  

 I-10W at Anthony out to Las Cruces still shut down

 N.M 404 re-opened

 I-10 CLOSED from NM to Lordsburg, US-70 Las Cruces to White Sands

 I-25 north of Socorro to Truth or Consequences (T or C)

U.S.60 Socorro to Magdalena

U.S. 380 Socorro to Carrizozo

Difficult Driving Conditions:

• NM-90 Lordsburg to Silver City, snow packed with wet and slick roads
• NM-35, NM-15 & NM-152 Silver City area, snow packed and icy with fog in some areas
• US-180 Deming to Silver City, wet with snow and icy conditions
• I-10 Lordsburg to Anthony, NM, wet and slick roadways
• US-70 Las Cruces to White Sands Missile Range, wet with snow over the San Augustine Pass
• I-25 Las Cruces to T or C, wet with snow and icy roadways
• Please note that all routes in slick due to rain, snow and icy conditions. Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution.

Update 10:30 A.M.:

*RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-a-Ride services have resumed following a short delay and will continue through 4:30 p.m. today.

On Saturday, December 24th, service will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3 p.m.

*Sun Metro will begin detour all West side routes because of treacherous road conditions. All routes will travel along Mesa Street only until conditions improve.
Impacted routes: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20

9:20 A.M.:

Marshall Road to Railroad Drive is closed.

4800 block of Mesa to 5800 mesa is closed due to icy conditions.

Curve along  I-10W between Sunland Park  and Executive is iced over, only one lane open. Police trying to detour drivers,back up is West to Schuster and East to Resler.

Transmountain Road closed.

Scenic Drive closed.

I-10 has also been shut down around mile marker 14 on the West Side.

A portion of Montana Street has also been closed from the 4800 block to 5800 block due to ice.

STORY: A winter storm that brought strong winds and snowy conditions forced the closure of several El Paso roads.

Due to deteriorating weather conditions, the City of El Paso will be closing down all non-essential services as of now.  

Environmental Services & El Paso Dept. Transportation said Scenic drive is closed.

The citizen collection stations will close early.

TXDOT crews shut down Trans Mountain Road just before 8 a.m. Friday.  Slick conditions and low visibility make the mountainous road too dangerous.

Multiple TXDOT crews have been dispatched to de-ice overpasses.    

Multiple car crashes have also been reported.

KFOX14 Traffic Anchor Kandolite Flores reported a dozen accidents in under 10 minutes between 7:30 a.m. and 7:40 a.m. 

Among those crashes, a wreck at I-10 East and Buena Vista backed up traffic several miles to the Sunland Park exit.  Police tell KFOX a car spun out of control, blocking all lanes of the interstate.
