East El Paso woman says Crazy Mike's furniture store scammed her

By Bernadette Flores

EL PASO, Texas —

An east El Paso woman is battling a local furniture company for a store credit she says was paid to someone else--claims the owner of the store denies.

Cynthia Gomez thought she was putting up a down payment for a furniture or bedroom set when she handed over $200 to Crazy Mike's furniture store in the lower valley.

"When I found out they didn't have the furniture set that I wanted, they kept my money, because of application fee, due to a no refund policy," said Gomez.

She figured her $200 was secure for when she did find something she liked.
"I went back looking knowing I had store credit," said Gomez.

That's when she found out that store credit had been paid out to someone else.

"I went back this past Saturday and the manager was rude, said it had been paid out, that I could file a police report that they had been in business for 35 years," said Gomez.

The problem says Gomez is that she never got the cash. Store owner Mike says they have a signature on file that proves Gomez was paid out.

"I think they somehow pocked the money to be honest with you," said Gomez.

A claim the store denies. Over the phone on Tuesday, the store told me they believe Gomez cashed out her account and don't know why she's making these claims.

"I'm angry very upset, I don't think other people should have to go through this, I want to advise anyone to go to Crazy Mike's to have this same experience, "said Gomez.

The store admits most of the time they do check ID'sbut couldn't tell me if they checked them in this case. So the battle continues.

"I want them to honor the account that was valid that was never paid out," said Gomez.
