East El Paso woman claims local tax company is overcharging

A woman in east El Paso claims she was overcharged for filing her taxes with a local tax company, while the company contends that she was informed about the charges.

Yolanda Salas believes she was ripped-off after she paid $400 for filing her taxes with Premier Taxes and Financial on Zaragosa. Her income only required a 1040-A form, which is considered a simple form.

Premier taxes said they charged her $69 for preparation fees, $40 for no-out-of-pocket cost when filing, and $20 for bank fees. Then, to obtain a larger tax refund, Premier Taxes completed a scheduled form, or itemized form and school credit form. In total the forms and the charges added up to $400.

"When I realized I was missing $400 and I questioned it, and I went and talked to a manager telling him, 'you never gave me an itemized (receipt) telling me how much you were charging me'," said Salas.

Because Salas had never paid more than $150 for filing her taxes she never believed she would find hundreds of dollars missing from her tax refund check.

However Premier Taxes has told Salas that they will be reimbursing her $200 because she had decided not to claim the school credit.

Only Salas still believes she paid an "extreme" amount of money for filing her taxes.

Salas son also filed with Premier Taxes, and coincidently he also paid $400.
