EL PASO, Texas —

Authorities investigating a possible stash house in East El Paso made an arrest Tuesday and seized 70 bundles of marijuana, officials said.

Investigators from the West Texas High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Stash House Unit arrested Rafael Talamantes-Bustamante at a home in the 11300 block of Lake Erie Drive.

Investigators also seized 70 bundles of marijuana, weighing a total of 74.35 pounds, hidden in a vehicle parked at the home, they said.

Talamantes-Bustamante was charged with possession of marijuana over 50 pounds, under 2,000 pounds and was booked into the El Paso County Jail with bail set at $40,000.

The West Texas HIDTA Stash House unit released this list of possible indicators of a stash house:
• Rental homes
• Attached garages
• Unkempt lowercase this> yards
• Little or no furniture
• Occupants keep to themselves (not visible on a daily basis)
• Occupants will not hold a normal pattern of lifestyle
• Different vehicles (especially vans and pickup trucks) entering and exiting the garage
• Vehicles arriving at the stash house will have different out of state plates (Texas, N.M., Mexico, and paper "buyer" or "dealer")
• Sudden activity in the home after days or weeks of not seeing anyone at the home
• Accumulation of advertisements on the front door
• Occupants do not usually put their trash out for regular collection but instead prefer to dump it at another location themselves.

While theseare some of the typical indicators of a stash house, they do not necessarily mean that the occupants of the home are running a stash house. As a general rule, if residents believe there is suspicious activity in a home in their area, they should call the West Texas Stash House Unit at 915-629-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 566-8477(TIPS).
