An early-morning car crash shut down N. Mesa St. in West El Paso for several hours Wednesday.

It happened at the intersection of N. Mesa St. and Sun Bowl shortly after midnight.

El Paso police said a Chevrolet truck slammed into the back of a Ford Ranger waiting at the traffic signal there.

The accident sent the Chevrolet truck very close to oncoming traffic, while the Ranger flew forward, hitting a traffic light and ending up on the median.

West El Paso resident Juan Moreno said, "There was a body over there in a parking lot. Some people from first-aid, from an ambulance, were taking care of the guy over there laying on the floor."

Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are considering speed a possible factor in the accident.
