DTV Transistion Questions Answered In Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

The FCC is making a big push in these final weeks leading up to the digital transition.

Friday, F-C-C representatives were at the Senior Games in Las Cruces, to target older television viewers.

FCC representatives said the big message they want to spread is don't wait.

The digital transition has been pushed back once already, but June 12 will be a go, officials said.

They are in Las Cruces this weekend, and early next week answering questions about the switch, and they are urging residents to apply for converter box coupons.

One representative said most people understand the switch, but have had problems with converter box coupons.

Some rural residents said they have gotten a converter box and connected it. One Mountainair resident said she noticed a difference in picture quality, but not a great variety of channels.

“It's very clear. It just hasn't had a lot of different things going on,” said Frances Addison.

The FCC said not every person has connected even though they have a converter box.

“June 12 there's going to be a lot of people that will have questions or trouble or they are going to find out they have the one broken converter box. Don't be in line at your local electronics store dealing with lots of confused consumers,” said Alex Sanjenis an attorney with the FCC.

FCC representatives will be available in Las Cruces through next Tuesday at the following locations and times:

Saturday May 30, Downtown Farmers' Market 8 a.m - 12:30 p.m.

Sunday May 31, Town of Mesilla Mercado 12 p.m. -4 p.m.

Monday June 1, Eastside Senior Center 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Tuesday June 2, Munson Senior Center 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
