Dreaming of Home: Timothy

Timothy is one El Paso teen looking for a permanent home.

"I have been in foster care since I was six months old," said Timothy.

The 16 year-old Eastwood High School sophomore was taken from his mom by the Texas Department of Child Protective Services when he was just a baby. The reason: neglect. His mom was a single parent addicted to drugs.

Timothy said, "They were too busy drinking, smoking. That taught me that if you drink and smoke you will start neglecting your kids and that is why ever since I was little I made an oath that I would never smoke or drink and would always treat my kids with respect."

Timothy did live with his aunt for several years, but after a break up in her family, he was placed back into foster care.

"It has been difficult some parts of my life, but I just say I can get through this," said Timothy.

And it's this positive attitude that Timothy's case worker says is one of his biggest assets. She says Timothy knows one of the reasons he has not been adopted is his age.

"He was asking me how many kids my age get adopted. Well, not many, but there are some, OK, there are some and that is what he took for that," said CPS Caseworker Azucena Carrasco.

"He has a very good heart, he is very noble, eager to help, easy to love and is very self aware of who he is," Carrasco said.

Timothy loves animals and aspires become a veternarian.

A lot of kids his age can't seem to get away from their parents fast enough, but Timothy says he'll never take his family for granted and won't be in a hurry to leave home.

"Those words will never come out of my mouth because I care about who takes care of me who loves me. I never treat anybody with disrespect. I am always there to treat them with respect and help them with whatever they need help with," said Timothy.
