Dozens Of Animals Removed From Man's Home

Thursday —

Dona Ana County Animal Control officers removed dozens of pets from a man's home on Thursday, citing animal hoarding.

Sheriff's investigators said they received a call from neighbors concerned with a large amount of animals at Jack Catlan's residence and of a strong odor emanating from his home.

Investigators obtained a warrant to search the home and found more than they expected.

"The first thing we noticed was of course the smell, one of the investigators requested a respirator and was not going to enter without a respirator," said investigator Bo Nevarez of Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department.

Animal control officers removed all the animals from Catlan's home including dogs, cats, goats and chickens.

Investigators said he could face misdemeanor to felony charges of cruelty to animals.
