Dona Ana Sheriff Pushes Border Security

February 27, 2006 —

The Dona Ana sheriff is preparing to testify before a Washington, D.C., subcommittee hearing about problems regarding border security.

Sheriff Todd Garrison is scheduled to go before the panel Thursday.

Garrison is in Washington for the first time, and joins about a dozen others including sheriffs from the Texas Border Sheriff's Coalition.

He and others plan to ask for funding and resources to help secure the U.S. - Mexico border.

"If we can get enough ... money to fund a certain amount of officers - and the equipment that it takes for them to do their job - to specialize in those specific problems, I think that would go a long way towards helping us in the problems up and down the border," Garrison said.
