LAS CRUCES, N.M. —
“I think it's pretty cool, the snow,” said Jennifer Luna of Central Las Cruces.
Pretty cool indeed considering this next winter storm should produce snow for the fourth time in one month throughout Las Cruces.
“I can't recall the last time I've seen this much snow in Las Cruces other than March of 1987,” said Bridget Spedalieri of the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
“It's kind of crazy that it changed and this is definitely the worst winter since I've been here,” said Amanda Tuthill of north Las Cruces.
And all this unfamiliar snow in the borderland is even causing a headache for those visiting the area.
“Well my aunt was going to come visit us but I don't think she is going to anymore,” said Luna.
But avoiding those roads during the storm may not be such a bad idea.
“With that moisture of course, with the freezing conditions that's a very hazardous condition for everybody as we travel tomorrow morning,” said Spedalieri.
“Sometimes people get freaked out even when it rains, which gets kind of frustrating,” said Tuthill.
But if you can't stay inside where it's warm and have to drive, rest assured the New Mexico Department of Transportation will be working to make road conditions as driveable as possible.
“We have all our equipment and personnel on-call,” said Spedalieri. “The trucks ready to roll out with the material loaded up, our snow plows out front ready to push the snow that comes our area.”
The plow truck may be ready to go in Dona Ana County, but that doesn't mean you still can't find yourself in a slippery situation.
“You know the good do's and don'ts, do slow down, don't drive fast, do be courteous to others, avoid the road rage,” said Spedalieri.
