Dona Ana County kidnapping suspect arrested in El Paso

Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department

EL PASO, Texas —

A man wanted in Doña Ana County that deputies said kidnapped an Anthony, N.M., woman was arrested earlier this month in El Paso.

Doña Ana County Sheriff's officials said Jose R. Martinez, 39, was arrested on Aug. 16 in El Paso by U.S. Customs officers.

No other details on his arrest were immediately available.

Martinez had been running away from sheriff's deputies for five months, sheriff officials said.

An arrest warrant for Martinez was issued on March 22 after he was accused of assaulting an Anthony woman and holding her against her will for two days.

He was indicted by a New Mexico state grand jury on charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery against a household member with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery against a household member causing great bodily harm, and two counts of aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon.

Martinez has been booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on a $65,000 bond.
