Dona Ana Child Abuse Case Continues

EL PASO, Texas —

A Dona Ana County Grand Jury has indicted and charged Erica Sigala with one count of intentional child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.

KFOX has been following the case after Sigala called 911 telling dispatchers and investigators the child fell off a bed. However, doctors have said the baby’s injuries were not consistent with a fall from the bed, but instead they were consistent with abuse on several occasions.

Deputy District Attorney James Dickens said the child, Jesus Sigala, is now off a respirator and breathing on his own, but he did suffer traumatic brain injuries and will be mentally disabled for the rest of his life.

Sigala also had three other sons who are 2, 3 and 5 years old. Investigators said the children demonstrated on a doll how their mother shook their 1-year-old brother.
