EL PASO, Texas —

It could become more difficult to see a doctor, thanks to a shortage of physicians around the country, especially in Texas.

West El Pasoan Kellin Acree worries a shortage of doctors could make it harder to get necessary care.

"When you're going to the doctor you're not sure how much you are going to pay, the fee, or what the insurance is going to cover," said Acree.

The Association of American Medical Colleges ranks Texas in the top 5 states with a shortage of doctors.

"I just think that getting in the medical field in general, and I guess even as doctors, it's probably difficult," said medical lab technician Sandi Burns.

More people and fewer doctors, means we will be short 90,000 physicians by the year 2020.  A problem partially attributed to the baby boomer generation.

"Even myself going to the doctor it seems like you take three, four, five hours," said Burns," Sometimes you're going to see the doctors, and if they have emergencies they get called away and there's no one else to take those patients."

Many patients worry insurance may play a role in who gets cared for.

"I don't believe everyone is on the same level when it comes to that so i think everybody should be equal in that category," said Acree.
