Despite recent rains, El Paso is still in a horrible drought

EL PASO, Texas —

Everything looked peaceful early Friday. There were no signs of a storm to keep people under cover. Out of nowhere, something El Paso has not seen enough of, came crashing down from the sky.

Rich Heilmann is from Houston. He said Houston’s also in a drought.

"I actually enjoy it (the rain),” Heilmann said. "It's nice when you don't see the rain that much and then you see some rain."

El Pasoan Crystal Carillo had a different opinion.

"It's horrible right now," Carillo said. "It's really, really bad."

KFOX14 Weather Forecaster Joshua Zuber said that the rain is great because El Paso needs every drop it can get. He also said that it does not mean we’re out of the drought.

"The drought is not over,” Zuber said. “We got a little bit of what you could call it sprinkles last night. It was 0.2 of an inch at the airport but that is hardly a dent in the overall rain deficit that we're experiencing."

Zuber said that we can expect more of the same weather we had last winter.

"We are far drier and warmer than where we want to be normally during the winter," Zuber said.
