EL PASO COUNTY, Texas —
A serious accident led to the arrest of a woman after deputies discovered she was driving drunk with her 4-year-old daughter, officials said.
The accident happened around 12:50 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Wake Forrest Lane and Sparks Drive.
Ashley Knott, 24, was driving south on Wake Forrest Lane and turned left onto Sparks Drive. That's when deputies said she swerved into the path of a truck traveling westbound, who then swerved to avoid striking Knott's Acura, deputies said.
Both vehicles ended up colliding in the center roadway, deputies said.
The truck's 22-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital with what may be a broken jaw, deputies said.
The 4-year-old, who was not properly secured in the booster chair in Knott's vehicle, was unconscious and transported to a hospital.
Deputies smelled alcohol coming from Knott's breath, and she was arrested for driving drunk with a child under 15 years of age. She was also charged with criminal mischief under $500 when she damaged a patrol unit's window, deputies said.
