Deputies: Five people in San Elizario exposed to carbon monoxide

By Jesse Martinez

EL PASO COUNTY, Texas —

Five people were taken to a hospital after they were exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide in their home in San Elizario, officials said.

Deputies were sent to the home on the 12300 block of Camino De La Rosa Road Thursday afternoon. When they arrived, they learned that two people were unconscious.

Several other residents were evacuated when deputies had no other cause for why the victims were suffering from disorientation.

Five people were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.

According to the El Paso Fire Department's website, signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, which include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea, may resemble flu like symptoms but without the fever. People may not be aware that the dangerous gas is overcoming them until it's too late, as it is odorless, tasteless and colorless.
