EL PASO, Texas —

Deputies arrested a woman on child negligence charges after they found her two boys hiding inside a dog house from two dogs, officials said.

Around 9:25 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to Connolly Drive and Lyman Lane where two children had crawled underneath a chain link fence into a yard with a pit bull and another dog, officials said.

Deputies jumped the fence and found a 2-year-old and 3-year-old boy hiding inside a dog house.

The two children lived on the 3600 block of Krag Street where their mother, Nancy Hernandez, was nowhere to be found, officials said.

About an hour later, Hernandez, 21, was seen walking near Krag Street searching for her children.

Hernandez was arrested for abandoning/endangering a child criminal negligence, and her bail was set at $5,000.

Child Protective Services took custody of the two boys.
