Deputies chase after 21-year-old man wanted for violating probation

By Jesse Martinez

EL PASO, Texas —

Deputies arrested a 21-year-old man who had violated his probation after chasing him through brush and canal terrain, officials said.

Gerardo Almanza was wanted on a motion to revoke adult probation. Police spotted him around midnight Tuesday in the 12000 block of Socorro Road. Almanza, 21, appeared nervous and admitted to deputies that he was nervous, officials said.

Deputies said Almanza fled on foot and was detained after about a 50-yard chase.

Almanza was also charged with evading arrest or detention. His bail for that charge is $600, but he is being held for the probation offense.
