EL PASO, Texas —

Motorist traveling on Interstate 10 east early Monday afternoon came across a mess near Lomaland Drive.

Around 1:30 p.m., Texas Department of Transportation cameras caught traffic backed up to Hawkins Blvd.

It looks like a large pile of sand had spilled onto three eastbound lanes of Interstate 10.

At this time, there is no word on how the sand got there, but law enforcement officials are diverting traffic to avoid any collisions.

TxDot crews finished cleaning up the debris from the roadway at about 3:15p.m.

Expect delays when heading out to this area of El Paso.

Traffic officials ask that motorists seek an alternate route.
