Death Penalty Recommended For Irving Alvin Davis

EL PASO, Texas —

A jury once again recommended the death penalty for Irving Alvin Davis.

He was convicted of raping, murdering, and cutting off the fingertips of 15-year-old Melissa Medina nearly seven years ago.

But Davis, who is now 24 years old, was granted a new sentencing hearing after a Texas appeals court threw out the original jury's death sentence.

Now, the new jury has also sentenced Davis to death.

"We're very pleased that justice was served and the jury did what they needed to do," said prosecutor Penny Hamilton.

As KFOX reported, the original rape and murder of Medina happened on June 3, 2001, in Anthony, Texas.
