Dallas Weather Delays Flights In El Paso

Flights had to be canceled or delayed Wednesday at the El Paso International Airport because of bad weather hundreds of miles away.

Heavy thunderstorms rolled through the Dallas area leaving streets flooded and some flights canceled or delayed. This was the storm that affected El Paso flights leaving Dallas or El Paso.

Most people flying out of the El Paso International Airport didn't expect any weather delays.

"We know they can't help it. It was the hail this morning in Dallas that got us," said Molly Hearin from Atlanta.

Molly and Zett Hearin showed up at 7 a.m. to catch their flight in Dallas. At 3:30 p.m. they were still waiting to board a flight.

Airport officials say the industry is changing. Because the air transportation system is smaller today, instead of re-routing passengers, now there's more passengers waiting longer.

"When one hub has an issue with weather, there's no longer the empty seats in the industry to re-route people around that hub with other carriers," said Director of Aviation Patrick Abeln.

As the Hearins finally boarded the plane to Dallas at 5 p.m., their outlook wasn't very positive.

"And we'll probably never get out of Dallas," said Zett Hearin.
