Cowboys Help Local Business

EL PASO, Texas —

At the Brick Wall Pizza Company on a Sunday afternoon, it's not just a place where you can grab a bite. It turns into Cowboy nation.

"It gets rowdy and loud in here,” said manager, Benjamin Mendez.

But customers don’t seem to mind the noise.

"This place is awesome, because the last place we went, we got kicked out because we weren't Eagle's fans," said Crystal Colovina.

But while Cowboys fans have their eyes on the TV screens showing the game, managers have their eyes on profits. Brick Wall Pizza Company just started serving up food and drinks in June, meaning they opened just around the time when the economy started taking a turn for the worse.

"Thanks to the Cowboys, we've been doing good. Right here in El Paso there’s a lot of Cowboys fans and they like to come here and have a good time," said Mendez.

Those good times ring up sales by 50 percent on Sundays. Owner Jacob Akle said Fridays are also busy days. He said he and his partners had plans to open their business long before the tough economy and thanks to sports, they are scoring touchdowns at the register.

Akle admits it was tough getting the business off the ground, with he and his partners having to fork over 60 percent of the cost to open the business. He said it cost more than $100,000 to open the doors at Brick Wall Pizza Company.

While fans couldn’t count on a win against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, they know two things are reliable.

"I expect good food and good beer," said Colovina.

Other fans agree.

“It's a great atmosphere. Food's good. Can't go wrong with the carnivore pizza,. Beer's cold," said Steve Perez.
