Couple at Ascarte Park allegedly threatened; suspect arrested

EL PASO, Texas —

A 21-year-old man was arrested after El Paso County Sheriff's deputies said he threatened a couple at Ascarate Park with a weapon.

They said the incident happened Tuesday at about 9:15 p.m., the victim and her boyfriend were at the park when Jonathan Garcia approached them in an aggressive manner and displayed a weapon, possibly a knife. The couple was able to leave the park unharmed.

The womanaccording to deputieshad a protective order against Garcia, who was featured as a most-wanted family violence fugitive Tuesday in a list distributed by Crime Stoppers of El Paso.

Deputies arrested Garcia as he walked near his home, and allege Garcia initially gave the deputies a different name.

Deputies arrested Garcia on suspicion of violating a protective order, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and failure to identify as a fugitive from justice. He also had a previous outstanding warrant for violating a protective order.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on bonds totaling $42,500.
