County Disapproves Petroleum Pipeline

EL PASO, Texas —

Commissioners continue to disapprove of a petroleum pipeline that could run underneath El Paso County homes to Mexico.

Commissioners said it's not safe, and that PMI Services, the company proposing the pipeline, did not give residents a chance to weigh in.

Legally commissioners may not be able to restrict the pipeline's right of way.

Monday they voted to write a letter to the Texas Railroad Commission, asking it to notify the county if PMI requests a permit.

El Paso County Commissioner Miguel Teran said, “They (PMI) need to build a pipeline through an urban area that has houses and schools. My proposal is that I want to move them a little bit away from where the new growth and development is taking place. They (PMI) seem to think to they are going to do whatever way they want, but I don't think so.”

PMI held a public meeting Monday evening to disclose its plans to El Paso County residents.
