County Commissioners Approve Bond Issue

EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso County Commissioners approved a bond Monday that will improve El Paso and outlying areas without raising property taxes.

Commissioners compiled a list of projects that need attention, but they must be accomplished within two years.

Some of the projects include a sports park and renovations at Ascarate Park.

They also earmarked money for reconstruction of the courthouse and work on the county jail and annex.

There will also be necessary upgrades to computers and software.

El Paso County Commissioner Luis Sarinana said, "I think what's important for the community to understand is that we were able to finalize this whole process without having to increase property taxes, because we have that bonding capability."

Sarinana said the county acted fast on this so they didn't lose its bond rating.

He said if the county waits for voter approval, the cost of the projects could go up considerably.
