HOLYOKE, Mass. —

The Black Mental Health Alliance of Massachusetts sponsored a new public service announcement that takes aim at the popular trend of sagging jeans.

Under Massachusetts state law it could be considered an offense punishable by a fine, even jail time.

"This is a mental health issue. This is leading these kids to think that all their whole gang mentality; they should be gangster and all that craziness," said Dr. Omar Reid, founder of the alliance.

According to the PSA, young people who take part in the trend could be fined up to $300, even face up to 3 years of prison time.

A supervisor with the Holyoke Police Department said while the department does enforce the laws, this one could be a stretch. He said he personally wouldn't make that arrest, because it might overcrowd the court system.

However, Reid said he has also been getting a lot of positive feedback regarding the PSA.
