Reyes Works Campaign
EL PASO, Texas —
Congressman Silvestre Reyes is expected to arrive to the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown El Paso by 6 p.m. His supporters are already calling it a victory party.
However, Reyes admits the numbers are close and spent his last minutes trying to sway voters as they enter the polls.
An email was sent out by his campaign Tuesday stating from their poll watches it appeared 9,000 people who would vote for Reyes aren't actually heading out to vote.
Reyes said he is talking to poll workers and said it appeared the numbers were in his favor, but admitted it's a tight race with challenger Beto O'Rourke.
Reyes has been elected eight times. This marks his 16th year as congressman for the 16th Congressional District.
KFOX 14 asked Reyes what El Paso stands to lose if they don't vote for him. He said his resume speaks for itself.
"Saving Fort Bliss. Fort Bliss was on its way to being closed. We turned that way around, Today it's a premier post," said Reyes. "1.7 billion dollars just with the (Economic) Stimulus Act funding created jobs brought here. The two top projects nationally were the Wounded Warrior Project on Fort Bliss, the Paisano Green (Community) project,
housing, transportation that in some cases we moved those projects up 20 years."
There has been speculation that neither Reyes nor O'Rourke will get the 50 percent plus one vote Tuesday needed to win sending this race to a run-off.
Reyes said, "no way," El Paso will choose a winner Tuesday night.
