City of El Paso

EL PASO, Texas —

Construction projects are a part of any growing city, but on El Paso's eastside, one road project is scaring people.

The city has blocked off half of Montwood Drive from McRae Boulevard to Wedgewood Drive for the next several months. The traffic in front of Eastwood High School is the real issue, as people are parked across from the construction. People told KFOX 14 that the parking, and construction, and closeness to the school have made it a dangerous area.

"Where do you see where people can cross safely, whether these cars are here or not? It's all dangerous, but the problem is there isn't any place for people to park here on Eastwood. If you go down any of these residential streets, they all say no parking," east El Paso resident Diana Kirk said.

However, drivers have a different perception.

"They need extra lanes. If they want to make a right turn, the parked cars are in the way," east El Paso resident Lily Soo Hoo said.

The area in front of the high school will be done in a couple months, but the total project will eventually go all the way down to Zanzibar Drive on Montwood Drive, and it won't be finished until 2015.

The good news is when it's done, the streets and drainage, which have been a problem for years, will be much better.
