FAMILIAS TRIUNFADORAS, INC.

EL PASO CO., Texas —

Nearly three years ago, many families from the Conquistador and Lourdes Estates colonias outside of Fabens, Texas contacted the Familias Triunfadoras, Inc. and asked them to represent them on how their community can receive water.

The first known families have lived there for the past 25 years. Since then, families were forced to get water from water wells and water delivery companies.

Familias Triunfadoras, Inc. led by Maria Covernali, has advocated for the more than 160 families of Conquistador and Lourdes Estates.

After numerous community meetings with families, El Paso county commissioners and staff, the Lower Valley Water District and the Texas Department of Rural Affairs, the first-time $4 million self-help water project was approved.

Under guidance of the the Familias Triunfadoras, Inc., the County of El Paso Road and Bridges Department and the Lower Valley Water District, each family will be responsible of escavating and connecting their own water lines.

The project started Saturday, January 28 near the intersection of  Tata and N. Loop in Fabens, Texas.

The project will last about two months.
