On Wednesday night Clint Independent School District trustees accepted the notice for retirement from Dr. Ed Galbandon. The superintendent is a former employee of El Paso Independent School District, where he worked directly under Lorenzo Garcia as his former chief of staff.

Galbaldon left EPISD and began working with Client ISD in 2009.

Officials in Client did not have any comments to make about the connection to EPISD.

Instead, they had nothing but praises for Galbaldon.

"Mr. Galbaldon did a stellar job with our district," said Laura Cade, spokeswoman for Clint ISD.

Despite Galbaldon's connection to Lorenzo Garcia, who is currently in prison for the cheating scheme that plagued the entire district. Client officials said they did not feel a need to launch an internal investigation in Clint.

Under the cheating scheme, transcripts were altered and students were pushed out of the system to manipulate federal accountability measures.

Many EPISD officials received bonuses for high marks – Galbaldon was one of them. According to our media partners, the El Paso Times, he received a bonus of nearly $18,000.

Galbaldon said he has decided to retire as Clint superintendent for personal reasons.

"After 35 years in education, I have decided to retire at the end of the school year and spend more time with family. It has been a pleasure to serve the students and staff in Clint ISD. I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for their continued support and for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of such a great district. Together, we have accomplished much and I have no doubt that Clint ISD will continue to move forward in the coming years," said Dr. Gabaldon.

Galbaldon's last day will be June 30.
