City warns of scam claiming to be from code compliance inspectors

By Jesse Martinez

EL PASO, Texas —

If anyone in the county received a letter claiming to be from code compliance inspectors, city officials said it may be a scam.

The City of El Paso Environmental Services Department officials said an unknown number of county residents have received letters through the mail that their properties will be inspected by "City and County of El Paso Environmental Services" code compliance inspectors.

Environmental Services does on occasion mail out notices to residents but the notices are not sent on behalf of the "City and County of El Paso."

The letters also state that if violations related to code compliance or animal services are found and not corrected, "a fine will be issued."

City officials said that those letters were not sent nor authorized by the department.

Anyone who has received this letter is asked to report it to Environmental Services at 915-621-6702.
