City Of El Paso Wants Residents' Input

EL PASO, Texas —

The city of El Paso is asking for your input, and what citizens say will determine which areas of town receive money, and why.

Northeast El Pasoan Mario Holguin brings his two boys to Memorial Park in Central El Paso. It’s a great way for the kids to spend their excess energy, and Holguin wants more places like it, especially for his son, a skateboard fanatic.

"More skate parks, to keep our kids from getting into trouble. So they can have a sport, even though it’s dangerous, it’s still something to do,” Holguin said.

The city's community and human development department is working on a five-year consolidated plan for El Paso. In it, they'll identify the needs of communities, and that's where citizens come in.

"It gives you an analysis of what the needs are of the city, what the community actually wants to see out there,” said city representative Emma Acosta.

Acosta is all for the survey, as a way to get to the heart of what the city needs.

"I may think the biggest issue is streets, but somebody else, other people in the community, may say no, our biggest issue is not enough parks," she said.

The results of the survey will help the city allocate funds to the communities that need them the most.

"I think it’s a good thing that they want the community's input to help better the city," said Holguin.

You can take the survey online, and results will be compiled sometime in January. We've placed a link to it on our homepage under the links mentioned section.
