July 27, 2006 —

The city releases more information on its red-light cameras, it said within a matter of months El Pasoans will begin to see them go up.

It has been a matter of days since the city signed a contract with Redflex Traffic Systems, the company that will be installing and handling the red-light cameras.

El Pasoans are reacting to the cameras that the city has been planning and is now one step closer to putting up.

"I'm one that usually takes the yellow light, so yeah I probably would slow down," said East El Paso resident Ruby Garza.

At some intersections there are cameras up already, which many drivers confuse for the red-light cameras. Instead those are camera sensors, installed by TX-DOT to monitor the flow of traffic. The city said it will still be at the most about 90 days before it gets the red-light cameras up and operational.

El Paso police said they are working with Redflex to pinpoint the 10 busiest intersections, yet to be determined.
