EL PASO, Texas —

The El Paso City Council is set to try to tackle illegal dumping in Northeast El Paso Tuesday morning.

KFOX-14 went out to many public property sites with Rep. Carl Robinson of District 4. We spotted a mattress, several old tires and debris left over from construction companies on several sites.

"They basically are impacting our environment," Robinson said. "I would say that they are committing a crime and one way sooner or later they are going to get caught."

Robinson said he will put the issue before the City Council on Tuesday. He said will discuss the best ways to combat illegal dumping, including possibly increasing local police in the area, increasing their coordination with the Department of Environmental Quality, as well as asking residents to report any illegal dumping they see.

"What can we do as citizens? You can pick up the phone and call," Robinson said. "You can give the name of the person (if you know the person that is doing that) but mostly the identification of the vehicle and their license plate number."

Robinson said to report illegal dumping, call the El Paso Police Department nonemergency line at 915-832-4400.

El Paso City Council meets Tuesday at 8:30 am at El Paso City Hall.
