Citizens, Firefighters, Make Dramatic Rescues

El Paso citizens made dramatic rescues Tuesday, as floodwaters trapped drivers, passengers and swept one woman down a West El Paso street.

One unknown woman drove her car into floodwaters on Shadow Mountain and became trapped. As she tried to get out, the water swept her off her feet and down Shadow Mountain. In dramatic video seen on KFOX, the woman is swept away. With only seconds to react, several men ran into the floodwater and grabbed her - most likely saving her life.

On another section of Shadow Mountain in video you've seen only on KFOX, two women were inside an SUV as it was pushed sideways by the water. Good samaritans first tried to use a rope to pull the truck out of the water, but once it looked like the truck was going to be swept away at any moment firefighters arrived and carried both women to safety.

Along Mesa Hills, Sandi Elison was trapped in her car with water up to her knees. "There were like six cars under there so one of the guys in the van just got me out. When I was sitting in my truck, the water was already up to my knees, we couldn't open the door." A short time after being rescued, Sandi Elison's truck tumbled down a ravine.

In Vinton, fire officials used boats to rescue families from their flooded homes.
