Cigarette Sparks House Fire

January 30, 2006 —

Investigators blame a cigarette for causing $30,000 in damage to a Las Cruces home.

Firefighters say when they responded to the fire in the 100 block of Shoshone Sunday night, they could see smoke and flames coming out of the roof and windows.

Damage was contained to the master bedroom and bathroom but there was smoke and heat damage throughout the house.

One firefighter went to the hospital for a minor injury.

He was treated and released.

No other injuries were reported.
