On Thursday afternoon, the locks to Montessori School and University Presbyterian Church were switched out, allowing thieves to ransack the place overnight.
"I'm crushed; I feel violated," said Debbie Carrier, the school director who walked in Thursday morning to find the refrigerator and a few microwaves gone.
Carrier said even the class guinea pig was nowhere to be found. Also gone were all of the children's Christmas presents from under the tree.
As a result, the Christmas party and class were canceled.
"We had children even crying; they were very upset. The parents were upset too," said Carrier.
Next door at the church, more items were missing. The Rev. John Mitchiner said 10 of 14 computers that were recently donated were gone, as well as a TV and the speakers used for Sunday services.
The thieves forced their way through locked doors where musical equipment was being stored. Mitchiner said a set of drums, several guitars and keyboards were stolen. This almost put Christmas Eve service in jeopardy.
"Everything that's opposite of the sharing and giving that you hope is going to be a part of this. There was just the taking and selfishness and the thoughtfulness. It's just real disappointing," said Mitchiner.
Mitchiner said this is not the first time the church has gotten broken into and that it will be hard to pinpoint who could've done this. There are a lot people who come in and out of the facility because it's used by several organizations as a meeting place.
Police investigators believe this is the work of four or more people, because of the heavy equipment they were able to take.
Sunday and Christmas Eve services are not being canceled. The church and school are also accepting donations.
