CBP officers seized more than 190,000 pounds of narcotics locally in 2012

EL PASO, Texas —

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers had a busy 2012 fiscal year, with more than 4 million pounds of drugs seized nationwide, officials said.

For the 2012 fiscal year -- Oct. 1, 2011, through Sept. 30, 2012 -- officers made numerous seizures at and between border ports of entry in El Paso, West Texas and New Mexico.

The following is a list of local statistics of seizures made by CBP officers:

Total illegal drugs (pounds) 194,567

Marijuana (pounds) 193,732

Cocaine (pounds) 688

Heroin (pounds) 60

Methamphetamine (pounds) 87

Illegal entry apprehensions 13,642

Inadmissible aliens at ports of entry 6,907

Agriculture quarantine interceptions 53,510

Agriculture pest interceptions 4,211

Northbound trucks 818,195

Northbound cars 10,752,140

Northbound pedestrians 6,613,629

Total northbound people 26,572,040
