Castinghub cancels future El Paso events

By Jesse Martinez

EL PASO, Texas —

A casting company accused of scamming local families out of money has canceled all future events in El Paso.

As KFOX14 previously reported, people who attended the Castinghub's casting call were under the impression that they were auditioning their children for a part in an upcoming show or movie.

Those who received callbacks said they were told that they had to pay a fee ranging from $1,000 to $6,000 if they wanted their child to be seriously considered.

After payment was made, parents said that Castinghub disappeared, taking the money with them. When they called to ask for their money back, parents said they were ignored.

Soon after the story aired, Marshall L. Blankenship, who represents Castinghub, argued in his letter that KFOX14's article contains, "false and defamatory" statements regarding Castinghub.

KFOX14 called Blankenship Jan. 18 and discussed what was written in the letter.

"The biggest problem with your story was that you didn't identify people so we don't know what their specific complaints are to address them," Blankenship said.

On Wednesday, Castinghub released this statement and declined any further comment, "As stated in correspondence from Castinghub's counsel dated January 18, 2013, Castinghub discloses its products and services in its customer contracts, on its website and in other communications. Castinghub does not believe that further comment on this particular story, which has been presented in a fragmentary and misleading fashion with false and defamatory statements, would be productive. Castinghub denies any wrongdoing or any breach of its customer contracts."
