CANUTILLO, Texas —

School board members with the Canutillo Independent School District said they have reason to prepare for the possible firing of Superintendent Damon Murphy.

School board president Armando Rodriguez said he cannot say what the preliminary findings of an audit reveal but they need to be ready to take immediate action.

"The agenda posted for Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 is written in a manner that will allow the board to act accordingly if it is determined action is necessary," said Rodriguez.

The audit, among other things, looked at the district's "transfer credit process, procedures and student cohort information" for high school students.

In April of this year, KFOX14 News reported that Murphy allegedly sent out an email that said "a student coming in from out of the country should be placed in 9th grade, regardless of out-of-country transcript notification."

That is not El Paso Independent School District's policy. Canutillo ISD also looks at the credits a student has when they arrive to the district, and does not automatically place them in the 9th grade.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there were anonymous sources that said Murphy had already resigned. Canutillo ISD spokesperson Gustavo Reveles said he was still employed as of Tuesday afternoon.

Neither Murphy nor his attorney were available for comment for this story.
