Brush Fire Threatens Homes In Canutillo

CANUTILLO, Texas —

El Paso County sheriff's deputies are investigating reports after brush fire broke out in Canutillo and threatened homes.

Deputies said the fire likely started after someone was burning trash and the flames spread.

El Paso Electric said it cut power in the area as a safety precaution.

"Officials arrived and there were large flames, large brush, large heavy smoke contributing with these high winds, pretty much getting out of control," said Deputy Jesse Tovar, with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

Residents in the area returned to their homes after being evacuated as a precaution. Officials said the fire spread to brush nearby and authorities were concerned about keeping structures in the area out of danger.

No injuries were reported.
