Brothers Fight Allegations Of Dogfighting

DONA ANA CO., N.M. —

Two brothers maintain innocence after allegations of animal cruelty and dogfighting.

Duryea and Daron Scott face charges of dogfighting, neglect and abuse.

Their attorney, Michael Cain, claimed charges were filed after the two applied for a kennel license in August.

Cain said his clients are breeders and have won several awards from dog shows.

He said they have sufficient evidence to show their dogs were not abused nor neglected.

Cain said, "As to the charges of dogfighting that arose yesterday, these charges are absolutely baseless. We believe the state can not produce one single credible witness to substantiate any of the dogfighting charges."

When asked about the conditions the dogs were found in, Cain explained that the American pit bull terrier is an athletic, thin breed.

One female dog was found extremely emaciated, and another dead.
