Broken Ankle Leads To Mountain Rescue

EL PASO, Texas —

A woman went hiking and ended up breaking her ankle, resulting in a mountain rescue Sunday afternoon.

The family called emergency crews to McKelligon Canyon Pavillion just after 4 p.m.

It took emergency responders several hours to get the woman down to safety.

El Paso Fire Department Battalion Chief James Carvalho said, “There was a whole group of family up there hiking and this individual fell so the rest of the family made their way down. Somebody called 911 and that’s why we’re here.”

Carvalho reminded hikers to have the proper footwear when hiking, and suggested they keep an ample supply of water while making the hike.
